Blueberries and other Unusual Crops

This week has been very "fruitful" with a good harvest is both quality and quantity. First we have these wonderful Blueberries. The Farmer has two bushes about 3-4 feet tall and they are full of berries. We have been eating handful from time to time but on the weekend picked 2 and half kilograms of berries and at least that many left on the bushes.
This interesting looking plant is fennel. It has a anise flavor and is kind of like a celery. I like to grow it and it is pretty but not too sure what the best uses for it are. The flavor is pretty strong. Have made a nice salad but will look for other recipes.
Soybeans have been harvest this week. This will be the first of two plots. These are those boiled beans that you get at the sushi bar with salt that you suck out of the pods. I think that this is remarkably like boiled peanuts except not quite as soft.
The New Farmer helped with the harvest and then too process by blanching and putting the produce in the freezer since it keeps well and so much to eat from the garden at this time.

Finally these beautiful onions are some that we grew from sets and now are coming in. They are very sweet and good to cook with.
I have 9.692 KG of produce to add for 81.295 KG for the year.  Which is nearly 180lbs for the metric phobic.

The New Farmer and the Farmer's Daughter do a Good Job

While the Farmer was away the garden continued to grow and produce. Lots of cucumbers and squash that many friends are benefiting from the largess. Here is some pictures of the bok choi and the radishes.
I will move some pictures over from the New Farmer but for now here is a picture of sage with with a blue flower. The plant is called salvia and you often see flowers salvia which is used as an ornemental.
I have 32.547 KG which  gives us a total 71.604KG which is interestingly almost exactly where we were last year in weight. I did have my first tomato but last year by this time we had lot of tomatoes by this time.

We need rain, still lots of veggies.

Just got back from the garden, the lighting run
me off last night. I am not sure there was rain. I picked green beans 2 kind the ones by the fig Tree.
They are so close to each is hard to get to them. Will pick more tomorrow, second farmers helper said they don't eat many veggies. I bought back some to share with my friend at the apartment. I hand watered the garden some
things are beginning to show the effects of the heat and lack of rain.
We got cucumbers 359- flat green beans 794- green beans reg. 259- beets red 209- swiss chad 140- fennel 161- Zucchini 166-
The Zinnias are blooming and the Sunflowers all most. We will work tomorrow and weed and plant something. Will see what Farmers daughter wants to do. This former part was wrote early this morning and a lot has happen since then. We had rain, yeah. When we went by after supper the fig tree needs for us to try up some limbs. It may not be pretty but will whole until you can do it. We are going to farmers market early and then work in garden. There is lots to do and some repair work after the rain

Over 100 LBS!!! Begining and Ending

The total today for weight is well over the 100LB mark and there is more to harvest this morning.

It is hard to believe that you can every tire of eating Sugar Snap Peas. They are so delicious but if the Israelite  in the  Wilderness could grow weary of Manna from heaven I suppose  it is possible. The heat has come up and the green vines wilted a light green and then brown. The Farmer's Daughter and Helper have pulled down the vines and replanted now with okra. Some of the peas were too big and so we shelled them and the Framer' Wife has put them in the freezer for us to eat on a later occasion when we hanker for the test of spring
In their place we have green beans. These are those of the thinnest type that the rarefied restaurant might sell calling them  some French name.  Nonetheless they are delicious.

Cucumbers have come in and I often eat one on the way to work and one coming into the house. These are the wonderful thin English type but the seeds came from Holland.
Some things which are still in the ground are these wonderful beets. I have had to give so much away since we cannot all this bounty.
At the top of the page are the beautiful Magda squash that are from the Middle East. You will never see these in a market as just the touch of your hand can leave a mar that would make them less salable but no less tasty.  I think that might work well in and old Slovene family recipe?

Now the math 9.032 KG add to the previous total is 47.844 KG which is 105..26Lbs

Abundance Harvest--Lunch!

Just went over to harvest lunch. I already have a casserole in the oven. Who needs meat when you have all these veggies. We will be harvesting everyday now.

Got lots of blueberries that will be ready in a few days. I smell muffins, Yeah. I just love working in the garden and watching it grow. Happy summer to all
